Geoffrey Hinton on recent advances in deep learning

I wanted to highlight this great podcast from CBC’s The Current with Geoffrey Hinton, the godfather of deep learning. He occasionally seems to woosh over host Anna Maria Tremonti’s head, but overall does a really nice job explaining some of the basics behind how deep learning works and why it’s been able to make such startling advances in the past five years or so. For a deeper dive into his work and his thoughts on the current state of the field, check out his reddit AMA from last fall, and for a little more about the man, check this Wired profile from last year.
